the center for academic support The Center for Academic Support (CAS) exists to assist each student in preparing for graduation and their career. Our goal is to support students in their efforts to develop their talents, empower them to direct their own learning and lead them to pathways of success. With emphasis on success, graduates acquire lifelong behaviors and attitudes which are recognized by employers. The CAS accomplishes the above goal by providing a comprehensive menu of services and programs that help the student connect to the University.

the center Located in the front area of the library, the Center is a favorite place for students. Whether you are looking for your instructor, instructor's notes, typing your paper on a computer, meeting with a tutor to study for your accounting class, or meeting with your group for a project, you will find many tools to help you reach your academic goals.

tutorial assistance Peer Tutoring is available to all students free of charge. This service may be provided on an individual or group basis.  Our peer tutors are trained through a College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified training program, and are required to become CRLA certified.

resource materials The CAS maintains a resource library for use by all students, faculty and staff. The resource library will stock academic textbooks and course notebooks (course description, syllabus and faculty notes), dictionaries, thesauri, and writing reference manuals.

technology Computers and printers are available for students to use in the Center for Academic Support.

disability services Johnson & Wales is dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations to allow learning disabled and other challenged students to succeed in their academic pursuits. While maintaining the highest academic integrity, the University strives to balance scholarship with support services which will assist special needs students to function in the University's academic environment.

For documentation, students requesting services must provide the Disability Services and Testing Coordinator with one of the following reports to verify the disability and to aid educational planning: neurological/medical report by a psychiatrist, neurologist or other physician; psycho-educational evaluation by a licensed clinician.

The Coordinator will meet with the student concerning reasonable accommodations each term at which time the student must sign an agreement form to implement any appropriate accommodations. Accommodations include, but are not limited to: extended time on tests, textbooks in audio format, oral testing, class notes/peer note taker and tape recorder in class.
