Desiree Schuler was born in West Berlin, Germany, where she also spent her formative years before she relocated to the United States. She began her formal academic training in Central Louisiana and completed it in Rhode Island.

Schuler is interested in helping students to explore the connections between their lives and the literary works they study. Her secondary interest in rhetoric and composition allows her to work closely with students who are interested in developing professional competencies in this area.

Her current research interest is in exploring classical texts as well as staying current in the field of composition studies.

She recently helped launch a campuswide dialogue about academic integrity.

Schuler teaches a wide range of literature classes that includes the introductory literature course as well as 4000-level classes. She also teaches the two composition courses and one in public speaking.

Schuler believes that service is an important component of our lives. Service can take many forms. Because she has a specialized skillset, Schuler is always available to present to former students who are interested in developing their written communication skills.
