JWU Wrestling Returns to Providence Performing Arts Center

JWU Wrestling took on the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals at Providence Performing Arts Center

It’s not every day that a regulation NCAA Wrestling mat gets rolled out onto the stage at Providence’s historic Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC). Saturday night brought collegiate wrestling to the former movie palace that typically hosts Broadway shows, concerts and comedians. The third-ranked Wildcats took on the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals, ranked #7 in NCAA Division II.

The Cardinals came out on top for the night, 23-13. Wheeling Jesuit’s overall ranking jumped to 7-2, while JWU dropped to 6-3. You can get more details on the match from JWU Providence Athletics.

The day before the Showdown, senior Bobby Jordan shared some behind-the-scenes footage of the team’s practice prep on JWU Providence’s Instagram:

Culinary student Juliet Faas covered the Showdown on Saturday night, from the pre-match preparations to the half-time entertainment featuring JWU Cheer, Ataxia and even Wildcat Willie.

The Wildcats are back in action on January 4 when they travel to the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date on their progress throughout the season.
