A Breakdown of JWU’s Incredible Performance at the DECA Conference

Earlier this month, 59 JWU students headed down to Orlando, Florida to take part in the 2019 DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC). There were 27 students from the Providence Campus, 24 from the Denver Campus and eight from the North Miami Campus. The conference included 50+ competition categories, professional workshops and the elections of national officers. Two JWU students from the Providence Campus, Drew Duboff ’19 and Max May ’21, were both elected as national officers.

JWU had an amazing showing, with students from all three campuses placing in a variety of events and finishing as top 10 finalists.

1st Place Finishers:

  • Drew DuBoff ’19 (PVD) — Entrepreneurship (Growing Your Business)
  • Richard DuBois ’20 (DEN) — Stock Market Segment II
  • Alyssa Lawrence ’21 (DEN) — Entrepreneurship (Starting Your Business)
  • Young (Leo) Herrera ’19 (MIA) — Fashion Merchandising & Marketing 

2nd Place Finishers:

  • Brandon Perrine ’20 (DEN) — Hotel & Lodging
  • Sara Goldsobel ’22, Molly Leibbrandt ’22 and Janelle Henderson ’22 (DEN) — Culinary Management Institute
  • William Healy ’21 (MIA) — Restaurant Food & Service Management

3rd Place Finishers:

  • Emily Condit ’22, Rosa Mendoza ’22 and Rachael Litwiller ’21 (DEN) — Culinary Management Institute

Other notable performances:

  • Cassandra Ponce ’22 (PVD) made it to the overall finals in her event (Marketing Management).
  • Mario Talavera ’19 (DEN) was recognized in the “Top Role Play” group for his event (Travel and Tourism).
