JWU’s Entrepreneurial Spirit Propels Students Forward
Entrepreneurship runs deep at Johnson & Wales University, with more than one-third of JWU alumni having participated in the startup of one or more businesses. We help JWU students imagine everything their future can be with a rich, interdisciplinary curriculum that nurtures their entrepreneurial spirit.
JWU Alumni Who Mean Business
This entrepreneurial spirit seems to come naturally to Wildcats. Here are just a few of their stories:
- Auzerais Bellamy ’12 has started a direct-to-consumer virtual blondie bakery that’s proudly 100% women and minority owned.
- Matt Tortora ’15 won the university’s annual Sharkfest competition in 2015 and launched WhatsGood, which offers an online platform for restaurants, schools, hospitals and businesses to connect with local farms and producers.
- Tierney Boyd ’11, ’12 MBA opened her own tack shop, a retail website, and a mobile tack unit that travels to horse shows.
Ahead of the Curve: Cannabis Entrepreneurship Degree
Aligned with its strategic focus as an evolving comprehensive university, Johnson & Wales University (JWU) has launched its Cannabis Entrepreneurship program which spans the entire process of building a business within the cannabis industry. Legal cannabis generated approximately $10.6 billion in 2018 and according to Fortune, is estimated to be close to $100 billion before the end of the decade. As the first degree program integrating cannabis science and business entrepreneurship to be offered in the Northeast, JWU has positioned itself to be a leader in this field. Bringing together the worlds of science, business, economics, and entrepreneurship to evaluate the rapidly growing and evolving landscape of the cannabis field, students enrolled in this program will emerge ready to contribute to existing companies or start their own businesses.
Entrepreneurship Degrees & Courses
In addition to the new Cannabis Entrepreneurship (BS), JWU offers degrees spanning different industries with a focus on entrepreneurship, including a business-focused Entrepreneurship (BSBA) degree and a Food & Beverage Entrepreneurship (BS) with a hospitality slant.
