5 Benefits of Transferring to JWU

If you’re thinking about transferring to a new school to continue your education, Johnson & Wales is a great option. Experiential education, amazing partnerships with global companies, exciting internship and study abroad opportunities — there’s so much for our students to take advantage of! And for transfer students, there are even more perks to explore. Here are five benefits you can enjoy when you transfer to JWU.

1. JWU has expert transfer representatives to help you through the process.

You’ll benefit from the expertise of an admissions representative who specializes in helping transfer students — transfers are their primary focus! These reps are available to meet with you, answer your questions, and help you through the entire process.

Both our Providence Campus and Charlotte Campus have a transfer rep you can meet with. Scheduling a time to chat is easy with our appointment scheduling tool that shows you what days and times are available.

2. We have a scholarship specifically for transfer students.

Transfer students are automatically eligible for our Transfer Scholarship of up to $20,000, which is renewable for up to four years. There are also plenty of other scholarship and grant opportunities that you can earn based on your academic performance, major, involvement in student organizations and more!

3. We’ll help you maximize the number of credits that transfer.

Our liberal transfer policy ensures that as many of your previously earned credits will transfer as possible. You can work directly with a JWU academic advisor to review your credits and evaluate how many will transfer over.

If you’re interested in seeing how your credits will transfer, you can also check out our Transfer Evaluation System (TES), which allows you to search your current institution and see which courses have an equivalent at JWU. But remember, the TES is simply a guide to help you get started and the final evaluation of credits will come from our Student Academic Services office.

4. We offer Prior Learning Assessment options to give you credit for past experiences.

In addition to our liberal transfer policy, JWU also offers Prior Learning Assessment options as a way to earn undergraduate course credit for previous academic and/or learning experiences. These options include a Portfolio Assessment, College Level Examination Program (CLEP)/DANTES, Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), or Departmental Challenge Examinations.

5. Our Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP) provides a seamless admission process into select programs.

The Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP) is for students intending to complete a bachelor’s degree at one of our campuses during the day or online. If you’ve already completed an associate of science* degree from a regionally accredited institution, you may be able to transfer directly into the Business Studies or Liberal Studies program with junior status.

Or, if you’ve completed an associate of science degree in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry Arts, you may be able to transfer directly into the following programs with junior status:

If you don’t obtain an associate of science degree, you may still be eligible to be admitted through GAP into other degree programs if you have successfully completed more than 24 college credits at a participating institution.

*All other associate of science degrees will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis according to JWU’s transfer policy. Explore the complete list of programs.
